Oil Industry Helps Those in Need

Posted: Updated:

Local construction company JMAC participates in a food drive to benefit shelters and pantries throughout the state. In a little over six days employees at JMAC collected over 16,000 pounds of food.

"We've done different types of drives in the past, but I think this is really our first major food drive we've done in the past few years," says Robert Krom, the general manager at JMAC.

The brains behind the food drive, Rick Harger from construction company IVM, used the holiday season as an opportunity to bring these normally rival companies together for a good cause.

"Combined we can do a lot together. Even though we might have our differences working, we understand the needs and we are trying to meet those needs," says Harger.

The food drive challenge from IVM involves companies that were interested in participating.  JMAC was the clear winner in this drive.

"We've had a great response from some of the oil companions, and some of the drilling companies, just unbelievable. Got to give the props to JMAC and give props to every company that entered this. They allow us to push our food to the needy" says Harger.

Robert Krom, general manager JMAC, says this effort reflects the values of JMAC and its employees

"That's one of our main goals at JMAC, to give back to the community. I think our employees also embrace that ethic. It's a big undertaking to get that amount of food in that short of time," says Krom.

Harger says this industry has the resources to help a lot of people in need.

"We are a strong industry in the Bakken, in the oil industry. We can help a lot of people," says  Harger.

IVM plans to continue this Food drive competition in years to come.
