Budget Bill Passes

Posted: Updated:

Congress has passed a two year budget deal. And just the fact that they passed one is a big deal. This is the first time that a divided congress, one party controlling each chamber, has passed a budget since 1986.

The budget funds the government through 2015 and avoids shutdown. It also reduces the deficit by $23 billion without raising taxes. While North Dakota's congressional delegation supported the bill there are some concerns that they had with it.

"We still see sequestration hitting a number of our Native American families very hard. Hitting innovation and development, technology pretty hard. But, I think that we're trying to work our way out of that. The best way to work our way out of that is to get people back to work," says Sen. Heidi Heitkamp.

Sen. John Hoeven says he does not support a provision in the bill that reduces the cost-of-living adjustment for military retirees under age 62. Both him and Senator Heitkamp say they believe there is time fix that however before it is implemented in 2015.
