Council Urges Protection for National Park

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of people are doing what they can to help protect Theodore Roosevelt National Park from oil development.

The Dakota Resource Council (DCR) gathered more than 300 petition signatures here in the state. More than 10,000 people signed it from around the country. The signatures are attached to a letter addressed to the Secretary of the Interior, urging her to keep her word on protecting the park from the impacts of Bakken oil development.

The DRC isn't saying no to drilling, but if there is drilling it wants it to be done right.

"When we do it right, we're going to save places like Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and we're also going to make sure that everywhere in western North Dakota, the water and the land are protected," says Don Morrison, Dakota Resource Council.

The letter and signatures will be delivered to Sally Jewell tomorrow in Washington, DC.
