Representatives Visit Minot Air Force Base

Posted: Updated:

Two United State Representatives make a visit to the Minot Air Force Base for the first time this weekend to tour facilities.

U.S. Representatives Mike Rogers, of Alabama's 3rd District, and Jim Cooper, of Tennessee's 5th District, run the Strategic Forces Sub Committee of the House Armed Services Committee.

To get a better grasp of the various facilities, missions and assets within their jurisdiction, Rogers and Cooper are making a point to visit different air force bases across the country.

While there was speculation their visit was in response to budget cuts and sequestration within the United States Air Force, Minot officials say it was a scheduled visit, planned months in advance.

"I visit a lot of installations and have talked with a lot of men and women. They all seem to have a great commitment to what they're doing, and have acclimated pretty well to this climate, which is surprising and take it well. So, that's great. It says some good things about the men and women we got up here serving us," says U.S. Representative Mike Rogers, (R) Alabama's 3rd District.

"[It doesn't matter] whether it's on the bottom of a missile silo, or working with very dangerous nuclear weapons, or doing other highly technical and vitally important work. So, this is an amazing group of people from all over America," says U.S. Representative Jim Cooper, (D) Tennessee's 5th District.

Rogers and Cooper took over the Strategic Forces Sub Committee in January.
