Oil Production Remains All Time High

Posted: Updated:

The state's oil production reached another all time high in October by one percent. Production reached more than 940,000 barrels per day.

The director for the Department of Mineral Resources says heavy rains and poor weather conditions had a negative impact. He says the numbers might have been 10,000  to 15,000 barrels per day higher if gravel roads in McKenzie County weren't temporarily closed off to heavy trucks.

"All the county roads in McKenzie County were closed for a little over three days. McKenzie county accounts for 29 percent of the state's production and a third of the drilling rigs in the state. So when an event like that happens county wide in a place like McKenzie County it's very significant," says Lynn Helms, director of the Department of Mineral Resources.

Even so, North Dakota is still on track to hit the 1 million barrel per day mark early next year.
