Oil Companies Feed Bakken for Christmas

Posted: Updated:

Oil field workers are making some good money doing some very strenuous jobs.

They recognize that not everyone in the area can afford much for the holidays.

The Lend a Hand Food Drive hit the State Capitol.

The governor came out to talk to oilfield workers about what they've accomplished.

"I understand you're going to collect food for 10 days is it, and I can see you're off to a great start. You got a lot donated already. I think it's going to be a great thing," says Governor Jack Dalrymple.

The great start is due to 30 oilfield companies lending a hand. They have collected more than a thousand pounds of food already.

"I think it means a lot to the people who will be receiving the food. That the oil companies actually do care, and we're not just here for the oil. We're here to help the community as well, says IVM Construction General Manager, Tim Daniel.

Daniel and many others involved say they want to help out and make their mark on the state.

"We would like to make this the largest food drive in the state of North Dakota. see that we can see that nobody goes hungry this holiday season," adds Daniel.

The coordinators plan to distribute food in 15 cities throughout the Bakken region. Donation bins have been set up at Cash Wise stores and other supermarkets across the state, including one in Sidney, Montana.
