Travel Channel Features Local Artist

Posted: Updated:

A Bismarck man is appearing on national television. Jason Doll and his custom motorcycle are in Sturgis Raw, a four part series on the Travel Channel.

It's a one-of-a-kind chopper. The rolling piece of art was designed and airbrushed by a Bismarck artist. And now, it's receiving national attention.

It may be one of the most expensive business cards in town. Jason Doll airbrushed this custom chopper to promote Doll's Studios, a tattoo and airbrush studio in Mandan.

"A friend of mine and myself, we designed it to be something really radical and really look unique, something that I could airbrush up and make it look really crazy," says Doll.

Doll began airbrushing about twelve years ago. And since then, he's airbrushed everything from wall art to homes. But it's his one-of-a-kind chopper that's getting national attention.

"This one took me about 250 hours to airbrush. [It has] many, many layers. It probably took several weeks to do," says Doll. "We kind of designed it so many things could be painted, rather than having a lot of chrome pieces, because the more painted pieces we would have, the more [we could focus on the] accenting of the overall look that I was going for."

The bike has won several awards. And now, it's showing up on television sets across the nation.

"The Travel Channel was reaching out with some people with some crazy bikes to be interviewed down in Sturgis this last year," he says.  "And since we were down in Sturgis already, we were able to hook up with them, and they shot a snippet for Sturgis Raw and it's currently airing Wednesday nights on the Travel Channel."

Doll says it was an absolute blast. He appeared in show's first episode and may appear in other episodes in the series.

"It was actually pretty cool seeing yourself on national TV. I'm not going to lie. It was kind of fun," says Doll.

Doll says he's considering repainting the bike, because he's ready for something new. The paint job on his bike is valued at between $15,000 and $20,000.

The second episode of the series airs tonight on the Travel Channel.
