Elementary School Implements Shelter in Place

Posted: Updated:

An elementary school implemented a shelter in place after someone reported they heard a gunshot near the school.

Police responded to a call just before 9:30 about a gun shot in the 400 block of North 20th street, which is only two blocks from the school.
Police labeled the call a high risk welfare check.
They activated the SWAT team, and just before 12:30, authorities entered the home and found a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police say they respond to high risk welfare checks in this way to make sure everyone is safe.

Saxvik Elementary administrators locked all exterior and classroom doors, and classes continued.

Once the scene was rendered safe, the school lifted the shelter in place.
