Students Use Simulator to Train for CDL Exam

Posted: Updated:

Bismarck State College uses technology to train students to drive a semi-truck and trailer. The school purchased a simulator with funds from a U.S. Department of Labor grant.

The machine helps prepare students for the Commercial Driver's License exam by providing a realistic semi-truck driving experience. It requires students to shift gears and maneuver around obstacles.

The seat and steering wheel are mounted on a moving, vibrating platform that enhances the experience, while large screens display the environment being navigated.

Four students have successfully completed the simulator portion of the requirements.
