Minot Air Force Base Keeps Runway Clear

Posted: Updated:

As the snow continues to fall, keeping the Minot Air Force Base flight line clear and ready for the B-52's to use, takes a lot of hard work and big equipment.

The base is home to roughly ten brooms, ten plows and ten blowers, which helps to clear the runway, so the B52's can continue to carry out their mission at any time.

The giant 14-foot brooms, which are bigger than the average car, are out clearing and pushing the fresh snow off the flight line.

If the snow is too heavy for the boom, plows are brought out to help clear the area.

"Yeah, I would like, you know, less amount of snow.  We were out here almost every day last year,  the less snow the better it is for mission," says pavement equipment operator Airman Zachary.

With heavy use, bristles on the brooms are replaced every week.
