If you're craving a slice of New York style pizza or a Philly cheesesteak there's a place right here in Bismarck where you can get your fix. In this week's Inside Business, Jim Christianson takes a look at Nardellos, an east coast eatery.
When Steven Nardello was missing his home town of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, he reacted differently than most 19-year-olds would, he opened a restaurant.
"It's been my dream for a very long time to bring food from my hometown to North Dakota, I really wanted to expose people from around here to something different and exciting," says Nardello.
Nardello's opened about six months ago and serves authentic east coast specialties, like New York style pizza, Philly cheesesteaks and hoagies. Nardello says that although they did a quiet open with out any advertisements, word of mouth in the community really helped him out.
"It's been unexpectedly busier than I anticipated and projected, which is a good thing." Being an Italian and being from New Jersey, Nardello says serving food to people comes naturally to him, and it's all about the family.
"My parents and sisters do help me out, so they all come in and help which is kind of fun and I really really do enjoy that, it's a good family time," he says.
And Nardello says his goal is to make his customers feel like a part of his family.
"That's my favorite part, inspiring my customers, and they inspire me. They come in and give me a hug, and we know exactly what they want to order. It's a family-oriented restaurant. So, when you walk in, it makes you feel like home, and I make you feel like family."
Nardello says for the moment he wants to get this store settled and under control, but another location in the next few years has been on his mind.
