National Adoption Month

Posted: Updated:

Thanksgiving is a time to remember all the things you are thankful for and for one Bismarck family it is their new addition.

This Thanksgiving Cory and Candace Schmuhl are thankful for their little girl they always dreamed of having.

"We tried in-vitro a couple of times and that still did not work so God we felt had a different plan for us and we found out what his plan was and that's this little angel right here," says Cory Schmuhl.

Their little angel Caylee came to them through adoption when they met her birth mother Taylor.

"You kind of get this feeling that you know that these are the people that you want to take care of your kid. Because I mean you have to trust them just as much as they trust you," says her birth mother Taylor Hornbacher.

And they trust each other a lot. In fact Caylee spends one evening a week with Taylor and her family and sometimes gets to spend the night.

"I'm really blessed I get to be in Caylee's life because I mean I loved her so much this wasn't because I didn't love her. So it's great and Candace and Cory are like my other parents," says Taylor.

And they feel the same way about Taylor and the birth father.

"We kind of feel like we adopted two more families in a sense. Caylee now has instead of two sets of grandparents she has four sets of grandparents and what kid couldn't be more happier with that. Especially at Christmas time," says Cory.

Their adoption was finalized earlier this month and in December they will be receiving the states 2013 triad award with Taylor for being able to maintain such an ongoing and open adoption.

Their adoption was done through Catholic charities.
