Boy Donates Hair to Locks of Love

Posted: Updated:

After losing his aunt to cancer last November, Croix Clooten decided to make it his mission to grow his hair out and donate it to Locks of Love.

"My aunt, when she died, she didn't have hair, so she had to get a wig thing," says Clooten. "And so, I just started to grow my hair out and donate it."

But growing his hair out hasn't been without its problems.

"When I'm like playing sports, they think I'm a girl with my long hair, and they think that I'm super good for a girl, even though I'm a boy," says Clooten. "And this one time, I was at baseball and one of the coaches, she thought I was a girl, and I told her I'm a boy. And then, she said, 'No, you're a
girl. So then, we started, like, an argument. She kept saying I was a girl. And eventually, another guy said, 'No, he's a boy.' And that's when it ended."

"You know, he's wearing a helmet for sports, and it was difficult," says Croix's mom, Dawn. "And then he started getting called a girl and teased here and there. And that was hard on him. He made it through, and now it's time! "

Even though there have been some bumps along the way, Croix says it doesn't matter because he's keeping the memory of his aunt alive.

"It made me feel happy to do that for her," says Clooten. "So, yeah. I'm going to donate it on the day she died."

He's nine with some big ideas and a big mop of hair, but he also has a big heart.
