Don't Buy It Until We Try It: Side Socket

Posted: Updated:

Finding enough space to plug all of your appliances and electronics in one socket is easier said than done.  Even if you have enough outlets, cords always seem to get in the way, leaving you with big gaps behind furniture.  But, there may be a way to create extra space where you need it the most.  In this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," Amy Fox tries out the Side Socket.

From outlets to surge strips, it may seem like bulky electrical cords are just about everywhere you look.

"You just got all these cords lying around and yeah, I think something to condense them down would be nice," says general manager John Bridwell, Aaron's.

To create extra space, we decided to try out the Side Socket.  It sells for around $10-$15 and promises to fit where you need extra space the most.

"I'm excited to see if it does what I hope it does," says Bridwell.

We pull the Side Socket out of the box. And, we read through all the instructions.

"It feels good.  [It's] definitely heavy duty," says Bridwell.

But, before we start, we have to take care of the mess behind the TV.

"[We] got multiple cords here.  [We] got one for the TV, and one for the refrigerator.  I also got some cords I could probably plug in now," says Bridwell.

Set-up is as easy as three simple steps:  plug in, pivot, and power up.

"I guess, you know, it's got options.  Whatever's available or whatever you need to use it for," says Bridwell.

Once we the Side Socket is plugged into the wall, it's time to plug all the cords into the six outlets.  You'll notice the green and red dots on the front are lit up, which means the Side Socket is working.

So, is the Side Socket a bright idea?

"It does what is says it does, and it's probably a product I would use in my store," says Bridwell.

I have to say I love this product. There's quite a difference between a surge strip and the side socket.  The Side Socket is smaller and more compact.  It would be great to use with any electronics or appliances, especially in tight spaces.  This product definitely lives up to its claim to fame.

So, this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs up.

f there are any "As Seen on TV" products you would like Amy to try out, email her at afox@kmot.com or leave her a message on the KMOT Facebook page.
