Mountain Lion Shot South of Bismarck

Posted: Updated:

You may not know if your family has bagged a deer yet. But we do know about the mountain lion that had people looking over their shoulders south of Bismarck for the past month.

A hunter in a tree stand spotted and shot a mountain lion this afternoon.

Tom Doering says he heard gunshots, looked down and saw a big cat coming through the grass. He hit the animal in the shoulder on his second shot and dropped it.

Doering notified the Game and Fish Department, which took the mountain lion away for testing.

"Knowing that the cat has been causing considerable problems, closing Prairie Rose school, it's probably just to set everyone's minds at ease. They don't have to worry about that anymore," says Doering.

Game and Fish has already given the mountain lion back to Doering. Jeb Williams with the Game and Fish says it was a female about 2 to 3 years old and weighed about 85 pounds

Doering says he plans to have it mounted.
