The University of Mary Cross Country teams are getting ready for the Central Regional this weekend. The Marauders are coming off the conference meet and it's safe to say the results were mixed.
"Our men went exceptionally well, third place is the highest finish for out men's team since we've become NCAA Division-II eligible in 2006 so we're happy and very proud of that group on men. This is not a group of men what were blue chip athletes out of high school so to bring them in and develop them from a coaching standpoint I was happy to see that result," says head coach Dennis Newell.
Newell was not happy with the result on the women's side. Jennifer Agnew won the conference but the team finish is something Dennis calls very disappointing. Injuries did play a part in the finish.
"I can talk about excuses and so could everybody else every day and at the end of the day we were 4th place and we weren't happy with that and we do plan on changing that at the region meet. We still feel we can be a top four team and make a run at the nationals with the women and that's still our goal even though we did fail to reach our goal and we're ok with that in the sense that we set the bar high, our expectations are through the roof," says Newell.
The Region Meet is in Sioux Falls, which is the same course they ran the conference on.
