Woman Sentenced in Child Abuse Case

Posted: Updated:

A St. Michael woman has been sentenced to twenty years in prison for abuse that led to a child's death. Authorities say 32-year-old Hope Whiteshield threw her husband's twin granddaughters down an embankment in June. She eventually picked them up and took them home, but one of the children was unresponsive.

Whiteshield did not seek medical attention for the child and told other children not to tell anyone what happened. The following morning, Whiteshield found the child "cold and blue."

In an interview with police, Whiteshield said she threw the child down the embankment because she was upset about having to care for the children all the time.
