PSC Reviews Application for Enbridge Pipeline

Posted: Updated:

The Public Service Commission is reviewing an application for a pipeline that will span several states. Enbridge is planning to build a $2.6 billion pipeline that will carry 225,000 barrels of oil per day.

The Sandpiper line will run through nine counties in North Dakota.  It will start at Beaver Lodge Station, go to Clearbrook, Minnesota, and end in Superior, Wisconsin. It's one of the longest pipelines the Public Service Commission has ever dealt with.

"And just given the back drop of what's happening around the state with the awareness of pipeline safety it's just very important that we do a good thorough review of these projects. I don't see it different in terms of our process but it's so much bigger of a project," says Brian Kalk, Public Service Commission.

The PSC will work with Enbridge to plan public hearings along the corridor of the project. Kalk says given the length of the pipeline, there will most likely be three public meetings.
