Salvation Army Gives Coats to People in Need

Posted: Updated:

Temperatures are dropping, and many will be faced with the challenge of staying warm as it continues to get chilly. Local organizations are doing what they can to help those adjust to the harsh weather changes in North Dakota's future.

The Salvation Army is in the middle of their Coats for Kid's Campaign. This program is dedicated to providing families with warmth in the winter months.

"It's for families in need who need coats for the winter. They come, they get coats. The majority is for children, but once again we get some adult coats as well," says Captain Joshua Stansbury, Williston Salvation Army.

The coats are free of charge, and the Salvation Amy is in the process of giving away the remainder of their supplies. Just last week, they were able to provide over 200 coats to people in need.

"We start advertising in October, we ask for a big coat push for people to donate clean or gently used coats to the Salvation Army. Then we take a week and we distribute them," says Stansbury.

While Coats for Kids week is technically over, the Salvation Army still has coats available for those in need. Captain Stansbury reiterated how monumental this program is, especially for a city such as Williston.

"It's a wonderful program and it's a wonderful opportunity especially here in Williston with all the families moving into town. Maybe they're a little down on their luck, trying to find a job. So this is just a great program for people being able to come get some warmth for the winter."

Coats for Kids also offers hats, gloves and other similar winter apparel necessary for staying warm.
