FEMA Approves Governor's Request

Posted: Updated:

North Dakotans affected by the vicious winter storms in early October will be getting federal assistance. Gov. Jack Dalrymple announced Thursday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved his disaster declaration request made on October 22nd.

FEMA will help electric cooperatives and local governments in seven counties to recover from the storm damage.

"The storm created widespread power outages and caused major damage to power systems and other infrastructure," Dalrymple said in a statement. "This declaration makes federal funding available to help our rural electric cooperatives and local governments cover the significant costs associated with restoring services."

Adams, Bowman, Grant, Hettinger, Morton, Sioux and Slope counties will receive assistance. The storm caused about $7.98 million in damage.
