NDU Increasing Awareness on Reading

Posted: Updated:

Local McDonald's and North Dakota United students were raising awareness on reading earlier today for kids under the age of five.

McDonald's restaurants from all around the city hosted the event, which encouraged kids to read and also explained the Imagination Library, a program that provides free books for kids under the age of five.

"I think it's really exciting," says NDU student, Anne Schmaltz. "My favorite part is having the children come up and listen to a story and getting really excited about reading, and then talking to their parents and you can hear them being like, "We get books every month??" And they get really excited. We've had a lot of children interacting a lot with our readers."

Kids who participated in the event received a free book and ice cream. There were also appearances by the 2014 teacher of the year, Aaron Knodel and Cat in the Hat.
