Every mother's worst nightmare is a sick child. Isaac Bockus, son of Wendy Forman, was diagnosed with pre-cancerous polyps on his colon. Multiple surgeries and complications have ensued. And the emotional and financial strain has been great on the Foran's.
The family's battle caught the eye of stranger, Jim Penningroth.
"I noticed a bucket with a picture of Isaac on it and it explained his story about the problems with his colon, pre-cancerous polyps and so forth, and thought that it was a very worth cause to try to get involved with," says Jim.
This has not been an easy time for the Foran family. Isaac faced complications with his ostomy bag, which meant more treatment and more surgery. The Forans travel to Fargo and St. Paul for Isaac's treatments. Wendy is worried of the toll this will take on her family.
"If we want to continue to be able to financially make it, my husband and I will have to split what we're doing. He'll stay here in Williston, I'll have to go St. Paul, Minnesota for the surgeries and sit in the hospital rooms by myself while he's out here with two of the other kids trying to make a living," says Wendy.
Jim helped Wendy plan the Friends of Isaac Benefit taking place this Saturday to help ease the financial strain on her family. This story hit close to home for Jim, and helping out was a no brainer for him.
"My wife had pancreatic cancer and died ten years ago. Her friend had a benefit for her that raised a bunch of money for us so it's just, you know, help a brother out. If you can give back, for those who understand no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, no explanation is possible," says Jim.
Jim's actions have really touched the Foran family and given Wendy a renewed faith in humanity.
"It makes you very grateful. It just shows me that there are still people out there who care about other people too," says Wendy.
The all-day event will take place at the Midway Junction on Saturday, October 26. There will be a bake sale, donation drive and live auction. All the proceeds will benefit the Foran family as they get Isaac the medical attention he needs.
