Crime Rate Increases in Minot

Posted: Updated:

It's no surprise that Minot is booming. With increased population, there's the chance of increased crime. And, the numbers prove it.

The total amount of assigned cases in 2012 was 1751. As of yesterday, the recorded cases are at 1750. And, that's with two months still left in the year.

Two growing problems in the Minot community are burglary and possession of methamphetamine.

"Well, certainly when we have an increased population, your crime is going to go up proportionally. It seems that we're perhaps a little more active than we would be. Some of the population is more transit than what we had in the past," says Investigations Captain Dan Strandberg.

The police department can only include cases that were reported to them for their data. They encourage residents to report any information by calling the Minot Central Dispatch at 852-0111.
