Volunteers Help Soothe Hospitalized Children

Posted: Updated:

The Trinity Health Rockers program kicked off this afternoon. It's a new initiative to let trained volunteers soothe hospitalized infants and children. Research shows rocking hospitalized babies has positive health benefits.

"It's a shorter hospital stay. So, there's a lot of good qualities that come out of this program. So, I'm excited to get it going," says nurse manager Jamie Hammer.

The volunteers have been trained by nursing staff, and they're excited to start rocking.

"I thought this would be really something I can do, volunteer. I can't be on my feet a lot to do something, and I thought it would be really fun to rock babies," says volunteer Beth Chapman.

Six rocking chairs have been donating by I. Keating Furniture World. Hammer says the program will put some of the parents of these babies at ease.

"Sometimes, they have other children they still have to take care of at home as well, so we just want them to feel secure. So, when they're gone, we have someone that's here to spend their time with them and have that one on one time," says Hammer.
