Volunteers Restore Static Displays

Posted: Updated:

It's taken 40 volunteers and 300 hours to touch up, restore, and refurbish 2.5 static displays at Minot Air Force Base.  And, there's still more work to be done.

As you drive toward the main gates on base, you'll notice a replica of a minuteman missile.  Keep driving, and you'll find seven static displays, which have been a part of the rich history in Minot for many years now.  But, with wear and tear, the models needed a fresh coat of paint and a face lift. For the last six weeks, volunteers have been working to keep the displays up-to-date.

"This is our history.  This is the great legacy left to us by hundreds and thousands of airmen that have come before us.  And, so, this is just one way to give back and preserve that heritage and that legacy," says Captain Bryan Fanick, Minot Air Force Base.

The Military Affairs Committee and the Minot Area Chamber of Commerce recently donated a B52 static display to the 5th Bomb Wing Headquarters on base to showcase the bomber.
