Employees React to Restaurant Closure

Posted: Updated:

Notice. That's what now former employees of TGI Friday's say they wish they would have been given before the restaurant shutdown.

"I think it would have been the courteous thing to do, just because, you know, a lot of us have families. We have bills. We have things that we needed to pay for and if they would have given us two weeks notice or a week notice, we could have made other arrangements," says Becca Rattei.

The only warning they did get was a phone call from corporate, saying they lost their job.

"Hello Becca, this is Dawn calling from Friday's calling to let you know that indeed the Bismarck store has closed and will not re-open," says one voicemail.

Employees say they had no idea it was coming. Sara Frazier worked the night before it shutdown and said everything was normal.

"We thought people were going to be at work the next day, and we thought it was just like any other day," says Frazier.

Frazier had worked at the store for two years and says she's concerned about what to do now.

"I mean this is just ridiculous. This is the only job I have. I mean I live with my mom and help try and support her. And, I mean, this was all I had. It's just ridiculous that they couldn't give us any warning, no nothing."

Employees were offered jobs at other locations. But the closest store is in Fargo.

"That really wasn't an option for me. So, it just sucks," says Rattei.

Rattei says she is fortunate she has a full-time job and TGI Friday's was just her second job. But many of her former co-workers have already been having to look for new work.

They also said that the locks were changed at the store, before some people could get back inside to get their belongings.

A spokesperson for the store said the store closed for business reasons.
