Child Injured in Hit and Run Accident

Posted: Updated:

A seven-year-old Bismarck boy was hit by a car over the weekend. Fortunately, he's now out of the hospital and at home recovering. But it's not all good news. The parents say they are relieved their son is going to be okay, but they are frustrated that person who struck him still has not been located.

Seven-year-old Devan Moser was playing near his house with his friends, but shortly before 6 p.m. on Sunday, things took a turn for the worse. Devan and his friend were crossing the street to head home. He says they looked both ways and...

"I only took one step and that car just hit me," says Devan.

His friend was the one to tell Devan's parents he had been hit.

"Devan's friend came over, ran over to the house crying saying Devan's been hit, Devan's been hit. That's when we all came rushing over to see what was going on," says Devan's father Dennis Billhime.

Devan was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center and needed surgery on his left leg near his ankle.

"He didn't cry. He's a tough boy and that's one good thing about it. He's a tough boy," says Billhime.

The most frustrating part for his parents are knowing that the person who was driving the vehicle never even stopped.

"Me and mom we can barely sleep at night knowing that the person who did this is still out there running around. Who knows if he's going to do it to somebody else," says Billhime.

The accident took place in the 200 block of north 25th street. Police say they are looking for a black vehicle with gold rims and tinted windows.

"We don't have a lot of information to go on. So what we're hoping is this driver will come forth and admit that they were the one who struck the child and go with it from there," says Officer Pat Renz.

Officer Renz says the accident can serve as a safety reminder for both drivers and parents.

"Drivers need to use caution always. Always look for pedestrians, especially young children. It's a good reminder to parents to make sure they go over those pedestrian rules with their children," says Renz.

But Devan, who during the interview told his little brother several times to stay away from the street, has an even simpler suggestion.

"Look both ways," reminds Devan.

If you see a vehicle matching that description or have any other information, call Bismarck police at 223-1212.

You can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 224-8477.
