Minot Y's Men's Rodeo Prepares for Opening Day

Posted: Updated:

The 59th Annual Minot Y's Men's Rodeo kicks off Thursday, October 10th in All Seasons Arena in Minot.

The arena may look empty now but starting tomorrow 92 cowboys and cowgirls from North and South Dakota will be competing in several different events to earn the title of the Badlands Circuit Champion.

Some of the events include the bareback riding; tie down riding, women's barrel riding, bull riding and much more.

"They'll find it hard to just sit in their seat and not get up and clap and cheer. It's an exciting atmosphere to be at. Everything is different. Nothing is scripted. We know who is coming out of the chute and we know on what animal, but we don't know what's going to happen," says Max Weppler, Y's Men Director.

"But our ultimate goal is to raise money for Triangle Y Camp. That's where all of our net proceeds go. It's a summer kid's camp down by Garrison, North Dakota. And, last year, I think we raised about 90 thousand dollars for it. So, we're hoping to get those same kinds of numbers this year and help those kids down in Triangle Y Camp," says Paul Probst, Chairman of Rodeo.

The Wild West Rodeo begins at 5pm tomorrow, followed by the rodeo at 6:30. For ticket information, you can visit the MinotYsMensRodeo.com.
