Construction Begins on Underpass

Posted: Updated:

It's been a steady road construction season in Minot over the course of the summer and detour signs are still up around the city.

At the 6th Street underpass, concrete work began today. This week crews will start 24 hour cycles to pour 500 cubic feet of concrete in the intersection, under the rail bridge and up the hill towards Burdick Expressway. The project has three phases with a total price tag at just over $8 million.

"This underpass has flooded for decades. It's really a three-legged approach. The roadway portion that's being installed now, we'll have the pump station that work will start on next spring, and also some miscellaneous storm sewer improvements around this area. They're all tied together down here at the intersection. Because of timelines, because of funding we've had to break into different projects. It really is a significant undertaking," says engineer Lance Meyer.

Meyer says the intersection is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. While work on the pump station and storm sewers would be completed next spring.
