New Businesses Come to Steele

Posted: Updated:

We're used to hearing about expansion in the western half of the state, but that growth is moving east.  What's happening in Steele is just one example. Several expansion projects are in the works. One of those projects, a three million dollar renovation of the Coffee Cup Fuel Stop, has already begun.

A popular gas station at  the intersection of I-94 and State Highway 3 is making a few changes. The Coffee Cup Fuel Stop recently began construction on a 4 thousand square foot addition, which will include three new food franchises, Subway, Caribou Coffee, and Pizza Hut.

"We will be adding several new employee positions within the store, there's a lot of new jobs coming to the area as a result of the expansion," says manager Troy Winger.

Thousands of travelers and truckers pass through there every week, and the people who live there are really excited about it.

"It's a new food concept in town," says Winger.

"I think it'll be great for the people passing through, you can stop for a sub, get  a slice of pizza, it should be a real good  added convenience for the business here," says Rodney Guslav.

The three franchises won't be the only new businesses to Steele. After the Lone Steer Hotel was destroyed by a fire in August 2012,  plans to build two more hotels are underway.

And a new hotel might be built where the Lone Steer Hotel once stood.

"I don't know if they have an exact location yet, but right where people would be going past on 94 to see it and stop," says city auditor Carrie Monroe.

Monroe says the City of Steele has almost doubled in size the past few years, and she expects it to continue, especially with the addition of these businesses.

Winger says the expansion of the Fuel Stop is expected to be finished by next  summer.
