City Receives Report of Unsatisfactory Water Sample

Posted: Updated:

As people continue to recover from the flood, there are still quite a few homes that have been untouched for two years. And, on Friday, the City of Minot received a report of an unsatisfactory water sample coming from a Northwest Minot neighborhood hit hard by the flood.

The City then took six water samples in the reported area. All of the tests came back negative, meaning the water is not contaminated and puts the community at no threat to any type of bacteria.

"You know, we have hundreds of miles, you know, 60 to 70-year-old cast iron pipes in the ground still, and if water is allowed to sit in those pipes too long, it can impart a yellow color to the water.  It doesn't make it unsanitary to drink.  It's basically just an aesthetic quality that, you know, people obviously don't like," says assistant director Jason Sorenson, Public Works.

The city conducts water samples at 20 locations twice a month.
