Volunteers Provide Hope for Hannah

Posted: Updated:

It's the news that a parent never wants to hear, your child has cancer.

Meet Hannah Miller, a bright-eyed eight year old, who likes My Little Pony, reading and playing outside. Earlier this summer, she mentioned that one of her arms was hurting, and after a trip to Rochester, Minnesota, Hannah was diagnosed with bone cancer. Because the Miller family has a lot on their plate right now, volunteers decided to not only hold a benefit, but also give Hannah an experience she'll never forget.

"We've got Miss Vivian here to be her limousine ride to the benefit," says Tracy Driscoll, Guardians of the Ribbon.

Several organizations throughout the Bismarck community took part in a caravan that picked Hannah up from her house, and brought her to the benefit.

"This is awesome. I shut down work early so I could come out and do this with my husband. He's a Freedom Rider. We follow this pink truck around as much as we can and anything to help a cancer patient. It's so hard to hear and say, so we do what we can to follow through and help raise money for these families," says Kijra Rohr-Long.

"I said, 'Yeah, we'll come out and help her out.' Take some time out of our week and come over and do a little bike ride for her and help out Hannah," says Cody Miller.

And bringing smiles is exactly what this group did for the Miller family.

"I'm really excited to see all the kids and people that came to support me," says Hannah Miller.

Hannah and her family are very thankful for all of the volunteers.

"The incredible volunteers who have all stood together to make this possible and make Hannah's night, our family's night. Pride and proud of the community doesn't cover it," says Phil Miller.

Even though Hannah has a long road to recovery, the event gave a bit of support to her family and some hope for Hannah.

Hannah and her family will be heading back to Fargo tomorrow for another round of chemotherapy.
