Don't Buy It Until We Try It: Aero Knife

Posted: Updated:

It doesn't matter if you're a master chief or you just cook at home, you're knives get heavy use.  And, over time, they can become dull.  Well, there may be a new knife that you never have to worry about sharpening again.  In this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out Aero Knife.

From meat to cheese, it takes a lot of time and preparation to get the Marketplace Foods Deli ready for the day.  Just ask Stacey Lawrence about all of the slicing she has to do.

"We have a full staff.  If you have five or six people using them, you know, all hours of the day, they [the knives] go real fast," says Stacey Lawrence, North Hill Marketplace Foods.

With heavy use, even the industrial grade restaurant knives can wear down quickly, making foods hard to slice.

"It smashes them and we got to saw into them."

So, we decided to try out the Aero Knife.  It sells for around $10 and promises to cut twice as smooth and twice as fast.

"[There's] a big difference between the handles when you hold it," says Lawrence. "Personally, I would say it feels a little cheap.  It doesn't feel heavy duty at all."

We decided to start with pepperoni, one of the more difficult meats to slice.

"It's a little bit easier to use, you know. I'm not having to force all my pressure into it to try to get it to through the meat."

You'll notice the meat doesn't stick to the knife like it did before.

"[It] cleans a lot easier," says Lawrence.

Next, it's time to slice up the cheese.

"This is a big difference with the cheese."

We just got done slicing up some cheese.  This is a piece we cut with a regular deli knife and this is a piece we sliced with the Aero Knife.  You'll notice we were able to get it a little thinner, which means you may even be able to get a few more pieces of cheese out of a block.

"I love it for the cheese," says Lawrence.

So, is the Aero Knife still sharp?

"It has the serrated edges," says Lawrence.  "It doesn't feel razor sharp, but it did its job."

We just go done trying out the Aero Knife for ourselves.  It was easy and light-weight to handle, making slicing a little easier.  So, this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs up.
