Minot State University Prepares For Homecoming

Posted: Updated:

Minot State University students are putting their final touches on their homecoming floats before they show them off to the Magic City on Saturday, September 28. A lot of time and energy has gone into setting up for the big day.

Juniors Callie Cook and Breanna Benson will be putting in long hours to make their float stand out in the crowd.

"This is going be our centennial. This is huge. We wanted to get out there and make sure we had a lot of good ideas to present to the public," says MSU Junior Callie Cook.

This year's homecoming theme is MSU: Then, Now, Always.

"Our float is going to feature 16 of the previous kings and queens of Minot State University," says MSU Breanna Benson.

Eighty-five floats will be traveling down Main Street, making it one of the largest homecoming events that Minot State has ever had.

"Last year, we were in the sixties. I think about sixty-three. So, we've increased by twenty," says Benson.

The parade lineup will take place downtown between Tom's Coin Shop and Thompson Larson Funeral Home. All the floats will then make their way to the MSU Dome where people can enjoy food at the tailgate before the game.

"During half-time at the football game, we're going to ask and invite everyone who is wearing their MSU gear to come down on the field and take a picture in the form of 100 to celebrate the centennial," says Cook.

The homecoming festivities start up Saturday, September 28 at 10:30 a.m.

Just a reminder that Main Street will be closed off at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28. Some sections of Broadway will also remain closed until the parade is completed around noon. Drivers are asked to use caution and use alternative routes during the parade.
