Williston State College Ranks High

Posted: Updated:

Williston State College cracked the top twenty of Washington Monthly's Best Community Colleges list. The school secured the eighteenth spot on the list, which is based off of the community college survey of student engagement. WSC students had a voice in the ranking. Wanda Meyer Vice President for Instruction Wanda Meyer says the ranking is important for the school.

"I think, for our campus, we feel its a really big deal, because for years we wouldn't even hit that top ranking. So, this year and two years ago, we were talking about hitting that top 20, which is really exciting. We've seen a lot of change. There have been updates in curriculum, and people are starting to recognize us as a college campus. It isn't just so much as a physical structure as it is the atmosphere and trying to get used to that whole collegiate way of thinking and acting," says Meyer.

Meyer believes the caring faculty and specific location of WSC have a lot to do with the high ranking.

"I think it has a lot to do with just being in the state of North Dakota and this whole part of the country. I think people are extra friendly, they're hard workers, they have good ethics and good integrity. So, they believe in people, and I think that's where the faculty makes a difference and the support staff makes a difference because they will bend over to help a student be successful," adds Myer.

Williston State College hopes they can continue to move up the rankings in the years to come.
