This week, our traveling garden is on the north side of Bismarck in Pebble View Place, just north of Pebble View Golf Course.
I'm at Terra and Doug Perkell's home, and I love their yard because they've got many things going on in here that kind of make you feel homey and trees like the quaking aspen clump. It's a great naturalizing tree, and he's got these little islands of Black Eyed Susans and Day Lilies and different things. Its just a nice ornamental planting. Also, he's got a clump of Amelanchier, which we call Serviceberries. It's one of those Great plants, its so hardy, they turn red in the fall, and many different colors of barberries and different uses in the lawn.
But what I like about it is the curvy plantings in and out. It kind of leads your eye to another part of the yard and leads you to like the backyard where theres a lot of different plants. It almost creates a little mystic. Now Doug also planted different shrubs and trees for the neighbors in the cul-de-sac and we're going to walk over and take a look at that now.
Well besides an amazing yard that Doug and Terra have, this is an island out in the middle of the cul-de-sac that he planted for all the neighbors that build around here. And he never waters these things. He had to get them established, but he has beautiful plants like Japanese trees, lilacs, and look at the Russian sage. Of course, this time of year they bloom for such a long time, and he's got salvias, day lilies, and of course I love dwarf Korean lilacs, they are so hardy. Even these grasses, some of them he just dug up on the prairie and they are very hardy.
So, you can see, you can get a lot of color, winter colors, summer colors, very easily and low maintenance plants if you just plant it right.
We have an amazing garden for next weekend too. So, stay tuned and until then, good gardening.
