Don't Buy It Until We Try It: Luma Stylus

Posted: Updated:

From tablets to cell phones, nowadays everyone uses hand-held devices with touch screens.  But, navigating around the small icons with your fingers can be difficult.  Not to mention, with all the use, it's hard to keep them looking new.

"You get fingerprints everywhere, you know," says Computer Store sales associate Aaron Michels. "People, they're moving around, so you can't see after awhile."

To avoid putting another fingerprint or smudge on our tablet, we decided to put the Luma Stylus to the test.  It sells for around $10 and promises to be the 3 in 1 touch screen stylus, ball point pen and LED light.

Michels says, "I'm kind of curious on how it holds up.  If you're constantly removing pieces and putting them back if it would actually stay together."

We opened up the Luma Stylus and checked it out.

"It looks like the flashlight is on the back and here's the pen," said Michels.

We grabbed a piece of paper and it was time to check out the pen.

Michels says, "Actually, it's not too bad.  So, it works as a pen."

So, what's the point of the LED light on the stylus pen?

"I would only say you'd use it not in relation to tablets or anything else," explains Michels.

Finally, it was time to try out the stylus.  Just move it back and forth like your finger to navigate around the screen.

"It's actually nicer because it doesn't drag.  Your finger kind of drags a little bit," says Michels.

When it came to signing Michels name, it worked like a pen.

"With the finger, you know, it's still really, you look like a kindergartner writing," says Michels.  "Whereas with the stylus, it should be quite a bit easier."

So, did Luma Stylus hit the mark?

Michels says, "I could definitely see using one.  It works and for $10, you know, a flashlight alone sometimes costs $5."

The Luma Stylus was easy to use and made using our tablet and cell phone a little easier.  So, this week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It" earns a thumbs up.
