New 1st Grade Rooms at Sunrise

Posted: Updated:

Some teachers and students had something interesting on their supply list this year. It's nothing small like a pencil or pen. First graders at Sunrise get to start school in new classrooms.

First Grade Teacher Mara Fischer says, "I'm just so looking forward to this, it's gonna be a learning journey for be along with the students, and I'm very excited."

With the re-districting of Bismarck Public Schools, changes were made and faculty and staff had to adapt quickly. Initially, Kindergartners were going to move into the new wing, but plans switched and First Grade teachers were told they would be moving.

First Grade Teacher Tammy Weiler says,"First and foremost I've said it all along is just being ready for the kids. You know the room doesn't have to be in it's prime, just as long as the teacher is prepared and ready for eight-teen young ones, that's the most important thing."

More than 500 students are enrolled at Sunrise Elementary, Principal Lynn Wolf says he's not worried, they'll be ready.

Wolf says, "when we have a large group of our community coming together for the first time. That's always, could be a hurdle, that would be something that could cause us a little stress. But we want to welcome them into our community."
