Community Helps Fill the Bus

Posted: Updated:

Today, the community came out in great numbers. From young kids to adults, all for a great cause. Fill the Bus is in its 17th year. Dolly Dakota, Y93's disc jockey, has done this for many years and says the need is still here and she's proud of the community for helping out.

"It's like pay if forward. People that have benefited in the past bring and give back which is nice to see," says Dakota.

Backpacks, notebooks, markers, rulers, colored pencils, you name it, people brought it, and happily put all the supplies on the Bus. With cost of supplies averaging close to $100 dollars per year in some schools, parents and students know that if they can, it's time to start giving back.

"Just one donation isn't going to give them all the supplies. Everybody should help out so then we can change the world," says Aden Link.

And it wasn't just stuff.  Y-93 personalities noticed this year, more people gave money.  And no one understands the financial struggle better than Jessica Hagen...who remembers how difficult it was getting school supplies when she was a young girl. Now that times are better... She wants her young son, a year away from preschool, to see her paying it forward.

"It's really cheap. I mean we went to Target and seriously we bought like 11 dollars so that's like going and buying a meal at McDonald's just skip that meal and..." says
Jessica and Jason Hagen.

"Fill the Bus" in years past has helped hundreds of students and aims to do the same this year.
