Bismarck Pools Prepare to Close

Posted: Updated:

With the high in the mid-70s, many people headed to the pool to cool off and enjoy the sun.

"Well we we're babysitting these two little kids and we just decided to bring them swimming here today," says Shastity Baehm.

But soon, they will have to find other activities to keep the kids busy. The pools will soon be closing.

"We have three outdoor swimming pools here in Bismarck. We are closing two on August 11th. The Elk's pool, the third pool will stay open until August 15th this year," says facilities and program director Kevin Klipfel.

But with the weather still nice, Baehm says she wishes they would stay open.

"We didn't get a nice enough long summer."

But Kipfel says once school starts, they lose some of their staff and just can't stay open.

"We're a seasonal facility. We rely on younger staff. Most of our lifeguards are between 16-24 years old, so most of them are heading back to school and other activities, getting ready for the start of school so they're not available. So that really kind of predicates closing before school starts."

But they aren't closed yet. You can still head to the pool this weekend between noon and 7 p.m. for $3.50 a person.
