Residents Say "Slow Down"

Posted: Updated:

Construction projects in Minot are taking a toll on drivers in the area. Now, traffic is being routed into the residential areas.

It used to be a quiet neighborhood where children were free to play and run around.

"They just love playing around on this street but definitely not now because it's way too busy," says Jesse Hoffart, Minot resident.

Earlier this week, construction crews began working on repairs along 16th street southwest, which has been causing extra traffic along 17th street southwest.

Although this detour is only temporary, many residents living on 17th Street are concerned about the increased traffic in front of their homes.

"I'm not going lie, it's annoying. But, at the same time, it's something they have to do," says Hoffart.

Many residents that I spoke to didn't want to go on camera but did say they wish drivers would realize there are many children playing on the street all day long.

With increased traffic in this particular neighborhood, residents are coming together to spread one particular message.

"Slow down," says one resident.

Madison is one of the children who play outside on her lawn with her little brother Bentley. But, because the cars are speeding by, she's been forced to stay inside.

"They're going too fast."

So, neighbors are putting up signs asking drivers to remember to use caution when passing through because you never know who could be walking or skating by.

Part of 16th Street southwest is temporarily closed because crews are fixing an area of a sinkhole that happened following the of 2011 flood.
