Cancer Benefit

Posted: Updated:

They call themselves the "Family Folk", Barbara Jo, her husband Gary, and children, Suzannah and Johannah, have been entertaining and educating audiences around the Dakotas for years about the customs and culture of the Americans during the 1800s.

Barbara is currently suffering from two particularly aggressive forms of cancer and is undergoing treatments which require considerable travel.  The Bismarck Historical Society, along with other groups, are sponsored a benefit to help cover those expenses. And there may have even been a familiar face at tonight's benefit.

"Joe Wiegand, the gentleman who performs as Theodore Roosevelt in Medora, has offered to come and he's actually auctioning off a package deal where people can bid on having Theodore Roosevelt come to your event or your party, or something, which would be really fun," says Bonnie Johnson, a family friend of the Millers. "And then all the money goes to the Miller Family."

The benefit took place on the lawn of the Former North Dakota Governors' Mansion.
