ND Super Senior Wins 4 Gold Medals at National Senior Games

Posted: Updated:

He's a World War II veteran, a cancer survivor, and at 93 years old, he's setting world records in the National Senior Games.

Harold Bach of Dickinson returned to North Dakota today with four gold medals and a world record in the 200 meter dash for runners over 85. He didn't start running competitively until he was 72-years-old. Since then he's focused on staying active by going to his local YMCA six days a week, and competing in track and field events.

"I took up bowling, golf, things like that, and I noticed several other seniors that were running and it appealed to me. So, the next year I registered for the 5K and I got the gold in it, and I've been running ever since," says Bach.

Harold says it's not winning gold medals that keeps him coming back to competitive racing, but the camaraderie among other senior athletes.
