Students Compete in Bright Ideas Showcase

Posted: Updated:

Third grade students through middle school kids are competing in the Bright Ideas Showcase Wednesday at the North Dakota State Fair.

Marketplace for Kids is an entrepreneur educational annual program held in 10 different regions across the state. Today, these kids are showing off their business, invention, and technology products that they have been developing for quite some time.

Katherine and Lauren Fearing are showing off their invention, a floating ping pong table. The sisters say it's a great way to keep busy and keep their minds sharp.

"This program is really good for kids that have good ideas and they just want to go far with what they have. When you're really creative they help you, they have a person that will patent your project for you and help you just go far," says Katherine Fearing.

Marilyn Kipp, executive director of the program, says she's amazed at how creative some of the inventions and ideas have become.

"These projects just keep getting better and better. Some of our kids have been with us now for 3 or 4 years because they started when they were in the third or fourth grade. Each year you can see more innovation and creativity in the students that are here," says Kipp.

Winners will be asked their future advertising and marketing plans for their product.
