Pedestrian Hit by Drunk Driver Near Fair

Posted: Updated:

A Minot woman was taken to the hospital on Monday night after being hit by a drunk driver near the state fairgrounds.

"We want people to have fun at the State Fair. That's what it's about with friends and family," says Captain John Klug, Minot Police Department.

But, that fun was cut short last night when a pedestrian was hit while crossing the road.

Minot police say 23-year-old Baelee Reiter was walking along the crosswalk on Burdick Expressway when 23-year-old Timothy Mock of Burlington hit her with his car at around 10:20 on Monday night.

Mock was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

"It was actually increased to a C Felony charge because of the alcohol involved," says Klug.

But, ultimately, it's up to both the drivers and walkers to be responsible.

"They have to be aware that there are pedestrians in the area. The speed limits are lowered from the normal 30 and 40 miles per hour through this area down to 25," says Klug.

Additional lighting was put up on Monday in response to the crash to try to help the visibility of the pedestrians.

"In a case like this, somebody could come out here and hope to have a fun day, and then get in their car and drive, because they had too much to drink. A C Felony, essentially, they could be looking at up to five years in prison. So, the most fun I can think of is not worth me spending five years of my life in prison," says Klug.

Mock was charged with driving under the influence and cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Reiter was taken to the hospital and is being treated for multiple injuries.
