Racing Pigs Return to the Fair

Posted: Updated:

The North Dakota State Fair has rides, food and all sorts of different attractions to keep your family busy for hours. But one unique attraction has parents and kids on their feet cheering for pigs!

Daryl Lies has been raising pigs for years, and he's trained a group of them to race around a small track with the help of an incentive at the end of the lap. Hundreds of parents and children gather around the track to cheer on the pigs.

"Majority of people don't have an interaction with animals, especially livestock like pigs or other animals, other than a dog or a cat. So, for them to see an animal that's trained to do something, they understand the work that goes into training an animal. They probably don't understand how it's done, but they're impressed to see an animal that's trained to do something. We don't have leashes on these animals. We hope they do what they're trained to do, come out here and come down this track and come back for the reward when they get back in the trailer," says Lies.

Shows run daily throughout the fair at 12:30, 3:00 and 5:30.
