Family Rocket Day

Posted: Updated:

Things got heated up at today's Gateway to Science Family Rocket Day in Bismarck.

Rocket Day is the most popular event that Gateway to Science hosts. It's an opportunity for families to come out and really get hands on with the science behind the flying objects. And this year, plenty of new rockets were added to the lineup for kids and families to try.

"This year we have Alkaseltzer rockets, so it's chemical reaction. We put them in film canisters, everyday materials that you can use at home...and they go off. Kids like that one," says Arlene Wolf, Special Events Coordinator for Gateway to Science. "Um, the other we have is kids like to be at restaurants and blow the paper, so we have puff rockets. We have engine propelled rockets, that's the one that we've had every year. We have a specialist, Pat Ripple, that comes in and helps us with that. This water rocket that's behind us is another popular one that we do every year. Fill it up with water...it shoots off. So, and then, balloons."

This year marked the twelfth annual Family Rocket Day at Gateway to Science.
