Food Frenzy

Posted: Updated:

Today kicks off the 48th annual North Dakota State Fair.

Vendors, vendors and more vendors. It just wouldn't be a state fair without all that food.

For the 9 days of the fair, many people may toss that diet and dig into some of those fair foods. That was at least my plan for the day.

Today's menu for the food frenzy featured the Dakota slaw burger, pig tails, beer battered walleye, bacon cinnamon roll, and tons more.

So we started out by trying the Dakota Slaw Burger with her secret recipe.

"We've been working on that trying to come up with something special for the fair. It's a Texas toast with cheese, quarter pound burger, my special sloppy Joe sauce and coleslaw. And, it's amazing," says Lesli Getzalaff, Owner of The Wife's Kitchen.

Then it was the Bacon cinnamon roll's turn.

"Everybody loves bacon. So you want to give it a shot and we finally came up with something that worked well with our product. And, we're very pleased," says Barb Smith of Cinnie Smith's.

All the first 5 vendors were all pretty good and you can certainly see all of their effort. It's going to be a tough decision on who is going to win.

Finally our sweet tooth was setting in, and it was time to try out the caramel turtle funnel cake.

After, we hit up the rest of the food frenzy vendors. Counted the votes with our full stomachs and the winner was chosen.

Jim Thomsen of Thomsen's Old Fashion Root Beer holds the first place ribbon for his caramel turtle funnel cake. And, you can see the ribbon displayed on this truck all the 9 days of the fair.
