Don't Buy It, Until We Try It: The ‘Ove' Glove

Posted: Updated:

Pulling hot pans and hot dishes out of the oven and microwave can be a challenge, especially with hot pads and mitts.  And, if you're not careful or don't have a good grip, it can turn into a big mess.

When you pull a tray of cookies out of the oven, it can be pretty difficult, especially with these hot pads and mitts.  The 'Ove' Glove may work better for you. It has a non-slip silicone grip.  But, will it prevent you from getting a burn?

Jeff Beck has been baking cookies for 20 years. And he's serving them up hot and fresh at the State Fair.

"As you can see with our pot holders, we've tried different pot holders," says Beck.

But, nothing seems to protect Beck's hands from the extreme heat of the oven.

"Right now, we're going to take a pan out. And, this is our old pot holder.  Basically, you grab it and sometimes, you know, you just hope you don't get burned. And we take it out, and then we have another pan which is still hot. So, we grab that and just put back in oven," explains Beck. "I'm excited for new products that will keep us from getting burned."

As the cookies bake, we open the box.

"It looks very sturdy and heavy duty.  But, my question is how easy it will be to put on and off?" asks Beck.

When the cookies are done, it's time to put the 'Ove' Glove to use.

"This one seems to have a little better grip," says Beck.

When we take the cookies out of the oven, the tray is 350 degrees. But with the 'Ove' Glove on, I don't feel anything.

While there can be hazards in the kitchen, the ‘Ove' Glove lends a helping hand.

"When we get very busy at night, our bakers are going constantly, so they would have it on and wouldn't have to put it on and off.  It would work great for that," says Beck.

The 'Ove' Glove is also good for barbeques and handling other hot surfaces around the house.  It is flame resistant and can handle the extreme heat.

So, if you're an avid baker, this is a good product to have in your kitchen.

This week's "Don't Buy It, Until We Try It," earns a thumbs up.
