Athletes Play for a Good Cause

Posted: Updated:

It's football, it's fun and it's for an outstanding cause. The annual North Dakota Shrine Football games are on Saturday.

Many of the best graduated seniors are working out in Grand Forks. Today, they took a break to meet some of the kids they're playing for.

"It's amazing. I wanted to play one more game more than anything. And when our coach told me that I was going to have the opportunity, I was just estatic. And we want to win, you know. Everyone wants to win, but it's not a big deal, because we know we are supporting a good cause," says Dylan Ruff.

"It's awesome to be selected for this game. A lot of guys would love to be here and play in this football game and it's just great to get to know all of these new guys that you've played against for so many years and now you're becoming best friends with them and we'll have friends for life," says Ethan Feil.

There are two games with the teams split 11-man and 9-man. During the week, former foes have become friends.

"You play against these guys all four years, and you come in not knowing if you're going to get to know them or not, because you kind of want to stay away. But once you get used to each other and all start talking, you realize they're not too bad," says Seth Ewoniuk.

"It's an honor to be picked for one of these things. A lot of other guys would love to be here, and I'm just thankful that I got picked for this," says Brennan Doan.

They're playing at the Alerus Center on Saturday. The 11-man game will start at 4:00 p.m., and the 9-Man game will kick-off at 7:00 p.m.
